The Remarks of the Bishop of Asunción of Paraguay to the Project of Book III: ‘De rebus’ of the ‘Code of Canon Law’ of 1917

Abstract

The preparation of the first Code of Canon Law of the Latin Church was ordered by Pope Saint Pius X in 1904. However, the code drafting task was not only the work of a closed group of experts, but also considered the opinion of the Latin Episcopate, which was consulted in two different moments. In both of them, the bishop of Asunción of Paraguay was consulted. This work addresses, based on the documentation kept by the Vatican Secret Archives, the contribution of the bishop of Asunción in the second instance, concretely, his remarks regarding the project of Book III on things.
